Comments: After wearing out my first pair of Instincts on the local, very rocky trails, I tried the Lone Peak. Not for me- too stiff, over-engineered. What I wanted was the Instinct with a lugged sole, keeping the flexibility and ground feel of the Instinct. The Superior is it. As with the Instinct, I run it without the insole. Maybe because I came to Altra after putting a lot of trail miles on them ol' toe shoes, I do not need the added protection, and my high-volume feet like the extra wiggle room. Today, up and down steep rock and gravel slopes, the lugged sole of the Superior gave me the grip I was missing with the Instinct, but I still felt connected to the trail in a way that is very close to barefoot. If you are going to the Superior from the Instinct, I find the sizing to be identical. The new lacing system, combined with the alternate lacing pattern, works great for me. The only negative to report is that I did collect a lot of grit inside the shoe. Maybe lace them up a bit snugger next time. Good looking shoes too. Love these shoes. Well done!
