NEW YEAR. NEW SHOE.
Start the year off on the right Foot(Shape)™
With the new year comes new opportunities. Maybe you’re looking to run your first 5k. Or best a PR. Maybe you’d like to bag some new peaks. Or maybe you’re just looking to get out and explore more.
Whatever your goals may be, we’ve got the tips and the kicks to help you accomplish them.
HIT THE ROAD.
Sometimes, the road to success is just that: a road. If you’re looking to get into running, there is no time like the present. One important thing to remember is that consistency is key. Start with a mile or even a half mile each day and work your way up. If you stay consistent, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the progress you make. And remember, there’s nothing wrong with working in walking and running intervals. Just keep moving!
TAKE ON THE TRAIL.
It’s more than just running, it’s exploring. From just getting into trail running to training for an ultra, trails are perfect for improving stability, balance and awareness. Whether you’re running singletrack or doubletrack trails, it’s always important to keep your eyes a few feet ahead of where you’re stepping to navigate rocks, sticks and other obstacles. And be sure to keep your body and arms relaxed to help absorb impact on the uneven terrain. No matter where you are, make sure you take the time to soak in the views and appreciate your surroundings.
TAKE A HIKE.
Find new hikes and discover new heights. Hiking is a largely overlooked portion of training, especially for ultra-runners looking to develop efficient power hiking techniques. But the beauty of hiking is that it welcomes everyone. From family time on the trail to conquering 14ers, there are many benefits to hiking, like bonding with friends and family and building your base. And when it comes to hiking, better shoes can lead to better views. After generations of hiking in big heavy boots, lightweight trail shoes are changing the way people hike. With more comfort and less weight, it’s easier to travel further, which is why Altra trail shoes are the #1 shoe for thru hike trails. Mile after mile, hikers continue to vote with their feet, and the best hiking shoes start with comfort.
CRUSH THE COURSE.
Find camaraderie on the course. Wanting to try something different this year? Obstacle course racing (OCR) is the perfect way to challenge yourself in new ways. These courses combine strength tests, short intervals, distance runs and more. It’s a fun, full body workout. The team environment is encouraging as you run, jump, climb and crawl through various obstacles, barriers and hurdles. The mud will all wash off, but the memories sure won’t.
OUT AND ABOUT.
There is always more to explore. Maybe your goal this year is as broad as getting out more – taking the dog for longer walks, discovering new walking trails, short hikes or strolling the town. The truth is, any and all movement is beneficial to your body. So, let your feet take the lead and enjoy every step. You never know where they may take you.
