UNDERSTANDING NEUTRAL VS. SUPPORT SHOES

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE? AND WHICH ONE IS RIGHT FOR ME?

Different types of runners require different types of shoes. But to understand the difference between neutral and support shoe options, you first must understand pronation.

Pronation is a natural inward movement of the foot that occurs during foot landing while running, jogging, or walking.

Simply put, the more you pronate, the more you’ll benefit from wearing support shoes.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the specific differences and help determine which shoe is right for you.

NEUTRAL SHOES

FEWER SUPPORT FEATURES FOR RUNNERS WHO PRONATE LESS.

Neutral shoes are typically for runners with a neutral or natural step cycle. They’re great for those with “proper”running form or those who don’t necessarily need additional foot guidance or support. Neutral Altra running shoes still encourage natural running form through FootShape™ comfort and Balanced Cushioning™.

SUPPORT SHOES

SUPPORT WHEN AND WHERE YOU NEED IT.

Support shoes are great for those who crave a little extra foot guidance and support or for those who pronate during their step cycle. These shoes offer support when your feet need it most: as you pronate or when your feet become tired. Even many who identify as “neutral” runners have a support shoe in their quiver and can benefit from the shoe’s added features.

PARADIGM 5
